FAQs

Accessible minivans, often referred to as wheelchair-accessible or ramp-equipped vans, are specially modified to provide safe and convenient transportation for individuals who use wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The floor has been substantially lowered, and features a movable access ramp for easy entry and exit. This is an overhaul of the OEM source chassis so it is considered a full conversion van. Vehicles equipped with a kneeling system lower the rear suspension when the ramp is deployed, creating a gentler incline for improved accessibility. Both front seats are removable, enabling wheelchair users to drive or ride comfortably in several positions, including the front (driver or passenger) positions.

While often expensive, Mobility Auto Group often carries many different options with (total) prices that range from the low $20,000 to up over $100,000. A good rule of thumb is that a Side Entry, lowered floor minivan will have a conversion that cost double the value of the source chassis. Full-Size and Rear Entry vans don’t always follow this rule so contact your mobility expert today to discuss all options.

Yes!
We work with many different conversion manufactures that take vans like yours and convert them in their factories. We have more about that process on our Modify Your Vehicle page here.

In rare cases this has worked for a few folks in the past. However, as described in the question above – there are some complications. Most often there are some trim packages that the manufactures cannot convert – so it is best to reach out to us first before buy a van elsewhere. We don’t want you to spend money on something we can’t help convert so contact us today!

Simply put: this does not solve the accessible problem. The chassis will need to be modified to: accept a wheelchair user, the floor needs to be remanufactured to allow for wheelchair floor anchors to be installed, and the ramp needs to hold up and be secured in the event of a collision. All these things are done when a van is converted, as described in these excellent videos by BraunAbility and Vantage Mobility.

We work with many different lenders who specialize in wheelchair-specific financing programs. We are happy to offer up to 10-year financing (WAC) on our vans. Our partners are very familiar with the mobility conversions and equipment that is installed in these vehicles. Contact us us to find out more today.

While most regular car dealerships do not see the value in your converted vehicle – we do!
